Friday night, I walked in a 5k to support a family in my community that suffered a terrible tragedy last year from which they will never be the same. But, this family is an inspiration to the whole community in how they have handled what has happened to them, with so much love and courage. You can read about this amazing family here. The theme for the race is "just keep loving people"; words one of the sons spoke as encouragement at the end of his eulogy during his father's funeral. You definitely felt that love from all that participated.
There were people there from all the different areas this families lives touched. Friends, family, parish members, sports teams and just loving community members wanting to lend a hand. All ages were represented too and there were runners and walkers alike. Many high school and elementary students came to support their fellow students, teammates and friends. Even the littlest in the community were being pushed in their strollers.
We walked through a neighborhood with many homeowners lining the streets, cheering us on. It was a true community event - where many can make a difference and uplift and support the spirit of one family in need.
Enjoy this rainy Monday!
