Baked {Fried} Pickles

 

 

 

I love when by happenstance, I discover a healthier recipe that lives up to the not so healthy fried version. These Baked {Fried} Pickles are every bit as good as the ones we like to order as an appetizer, when found on a bar or restaurant menu. The panko breadcrumbs get really crispy when broiled in a hot oven and even keep that crispness when served. Also, these are better served at room temperature, so they are great when you need to take a fun appetizer to any gathering - no need to worry about keeping them hot.

The pickles were a big hit at the Outlander viewing party I took them to last night and of course the biggest compliment was that all my friends asked for the recipe. How convenient that I can say " it will be on my blog tomorrow. " :-)

 

Baked {Fried} Pickles


1 egg

3 T flour

1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tsp seasoning salt

1 1/2 cups panko bread crumbs

1 1/2 cups dill pickle chips


Drain pickle chips and pat dry with paper towel. Whisk egg in shallow bowl. Add flour until it forms a paste like consistency. Add Worcestershire sauce and seasoning salt. Add drained pickle chips to bowl and coat well.

Put panko bread crumbs in a separate shallow bowl and coat pickles one at a time. Press into the crumbs to ensure they coat well. Spread coated pickles on a baking sheet sprayed with cooking spray. Broil on the top rack of an oven at 500 degrees for 5 minutes or until they start to brown. Remove from oven, flip to other side and broil for an additional 5 minutes. Serve with spicy ranch dressing. Enjoy :-)

  7. I love fried pickles, but have not had them since going gluten free. This would be easy to adapt with a quick change of flour and panko.

  10. What a fun treat! I just saw a guy in the grocery store yesterday who was buying 3 jars of sliced pickles. I wonder if he reads your blog and was getting supplies to make this baked fried pickles! ;-)
